Hi,

I never see the Wi-Fi with the small little 5 next to the Wi-Fi icon anymore.

I noticed this on the Tab S11 and S24 Plus.

Has Samsung changed it?

Thanks.

Are you connected to the 5ghz router

If you don't see the icon, it probably means that you're connected via WiFi 4 or below.

Wifi 5 doesn't support 2.4 ghz and some wifi 6 routers don't use wifi 6 on the 2.4ghz channel. Meaning wifi 4 is used

So a wifi 5 router only shows the wifi 5 icon on the 5ghz channel. Same with some wifi 6 routers

Aka, you are probably just connected to a wifi 5 router on 2.4ghz, meaning it's using wifi 4

We got a fiber optic router in May. I wonder if that's why. How do I change it to Wi-Fi 5? Thanks.

Fibre optic doesn't actually impact anything here. That's totally separate to the wifi side of things

As for changing versions, you can't. You'd need to buy a new router

Plus wifi 5 is a bit old now, wifi 7 is current

We did in May. So got a ***** one then. I thought it was going to help and have no issues and now I'm stuck with it.

I'd worry less about the wifi version and more the band your phone is connecting to.

Assuming you have a wifi 5 router, your phone is connecting to 2.4ghz which is the lower speed higher range mode.

Which makes sense if you're not super close to the router itself. If you are super close to the router, your phone shouldn't be on 2.4ghz, it should be on 5ghz. Less so the fault of the phone, it's more so a phone+router thing

If all you do is watch YouTube and message people, none of this really matters that much

It's just because in the past I often saw the 5, and coming to think of it, I haven't seen the 5 for some time.

I assume it is. It is a new router, and we got it in May with the fiber optic.

But there's nothing I can do though?

Wifi version is a hardware thing. A wifi router physically has chips for a certain version, so it can't be upgraded.

My theory is just that you're on the 2.4ghz band of a wifi 5 router

If you really really wanted you can just, buy and install your own router. But you need to know what your doing and some isps don't allow it, so probably don't try that
